The detectives found the footage they needed within half an hour. Though it was to the left of the frame, they could see the boy being pushed into the back seat of a station wagon and covered in a blanket before the perpetrator hopped in to the driver’s side and drove away. The picture quality was surprisingly good, with the licence plate visible enough to make out. They ran the plate through the national database and found the name and age of the owner, a Mr Tristan Ankler. They were also surprised to find that police in the neighbouring county had put out an APB for the exact same vehicle and it was listed in connection with the disappearance of two additional children and the murder of another.

Knowing it would take roughly twenty-four hours to obtain a trace on the vehicle and to comb through any additional CCTV, detectives advised the patrolmen to take Harry’s mother home and that they would be in touch as soon as they obtained any further clues.

In the interim, they contacted the neighbouring county’s investigators to share information on their respective cases.
